Perhaps you have noticed the wheels of some carts- that
front once are smaller than the rar ones. Why do the front axles wear out
faster than the rear?
Answer: This is a
typical example of a problem with geometrical basis, disguised by extraneous
details. It is impossible to solve this problem without geometry.
The question is why the front axles wear out faster than the
rear does. We now from Geometry that the circle with a smaller circumference has
to make more revolutions than the bigger circle to cover the same distance.
And, naturally, the wheel turns more often and quicker the front axle wears
out.
